Indeed I noticed a few days ago that I have beeps back now in my
mainly testing install. This would appear to be xterm 256-1 which got
installed here on the 25th March 2010.
So I think we can consider this bug fixed and close it.

Last days I upgraded xserver-xorg-video-radeon to version 1:6.12.6-1
and yesterday I got the same problem: a quite dark screen. Moreover,
today I found the system frozen, not responding to keyboard (not even
NumLock).
