A long time has passed and things have changed: (1) After setting ColorTiling off, I haven't seen the issue again. (2) I have changed hardware in the mean time, and the new box, with a M56GL [Mobility FireGL V5200], doesn't show the issue even with ColorTiling enabled (3) I will be back on the old hardware probably over the easter weekend (4) KMS gives me a truckload of other troubles which I haven't fully understood yet, so I have disabled KMS for the time being. Feel free to close this bug report. I can re-open it when I see the issue again.
