I can not reproduce #38778, xev does print the exact same information
under LC_ALL=fr and LC_ALL=fr_FR when pressing the 2 key, so I am
pretty sure that this bug has gone.

I don't think it matters which truetype frontend I use.
Both freetype and xtt modules support multiple typefaces
in *.ttc truetype fonts. But update-fonts-scale and update-fonts-dir
cannot

know if it's a bug but I did not find any doc
that mentioned it. And it's really annoying.
The x in the name might be the user name.

I have recompiled XFree 4.3.0-0pre1v4 from experimental for i386 using
pbuilder. It's available from
deb http://koyanet.lv/~aigarius/debian sid main
Compiled against unstable in a pbuilder chroot. Build took 4 Gb of HDD
and apr. 5-6 hours on P4 1.8 512 RAM.
