we (debian-www) are working on a new page about Debian derivatives for
www.d.o.
Currently, the page https://www.debian.org/misc/children-distros.fr.html
provides a list of derivatives but it's not maintained. The wiki
provides a list too (https://wiki.debian.org/Derivatives/Census

My gut feeling is the Derivatives page should be the page that lists
distros derived from or "children" of Debian. Creating a new page is just
more effort when the hard word has been done already.

I do not think the web site or installation guide do a good job steering users
toward verifying downloaded installation media. Many people do know where the
information is: You just remove the filename from any download URL and it
brings you to the appropriate page with the appropriate checksum
