it looks to me as if these scripts could be useful also for a local
checked out working directory, at least for some of them which retrieve
files needed during compilation. We could also perform some other tasks,
e.g. to avoid the makefile/Makefile trick by Josip under
/international/l10n ;)

pamphlets (yes, panflets was an awful mistake, should have checked) just
simple pieces of papers.

many piece of code are similar in various scripts, e.g. check_trans.pl
and stattrans.pl both parse CVS/Entries files to retrieve revision numbers.
It would be IMO very valuable to write small Perl modules and call them
instead of duplicating code.
