I too run K. Doing a find for libkfm* I find
/usr/X11R6/lib/libkfm.so.0.0.90 which has permissions -rw-r--r-- and is
owned by root and group root. I also find a symlink to it called
/usr/X11R6/lib/libkfm.so.0. K works fine for me, is that the same as your

/etc/X11/window-managers and altering it so that /usr/X11R6/bin/kde is at the
top of the list.

t I know it wasn't hard... I believe I found the info in a
HOWTO somewhere. I know that I had to use dd to rip the boot sector
from my linux partition into a file, put that in my NT root directory,
and add an entry to the config file for the NT boot loader.

I have the same problem. In fact, I have a _lot_ of problems with
gnome. Ever since I started using it my X server inevitably crashes
after a fair amount of use. No error messages or anything...It just
bails. Also, the panel continually forgets which applets I want in
it and sometime it just fr

inability to find stddef.h and stdarg.h. As far as converting the rpm
with alien...that just didn't work well at all. It still installed

Here is the process I have gone through to try and make a 2.2 kernel
work on my friend's laptop:
1. compile and install a 2.2 kernel image
2. upgrade pcmcia-cs to the 3.0.7 version which is in potato
3. got pcmcia-source from potato, installed it, and untarred the
pcmcia-cs.tar from it into /usr
I've been working to get Debian (and actually redhat too, for testing
purposes) installed on a friend's computer. However, every time he
tries to boot the rescue disk (or any install kernel i.e. using the
boot.bat or even redhat's install) his computer reboots after he sees
a few kernel messages.

I'm trying to get a 486 with a Cabletron e21xx NIC in it to work.
After much time trying to figure out what I/O port the NIC is on, I
finally got it working at 0x380. It inserts the module and even
assigns an IP to it just fine, but I can't ping anywhere and I
continue to get kernel messages like

This is something I've never understood. How does chat know what terminal
to talk to? Does it assume that /dev/modem is a link to the terminal the
modem is on? What is the proper way, to, say, send ATZ to a modem on COM
2?

I downloaded and installed the latest version of realplayer recently. I
got the Redhat package and used alien to convert it to a deb. It seemed
to install fine, but when I run it as a normal user and try to play
something (even the welcome.rm) it says "File compression not supported.
Cannot locat
Maybe this is a dumb question, but where would I go about getting this
deb? If you're referring to the one which alien produced for me, well, I
did install it.

Oh...silly me. The problem was that I couldn't find rvplayer.deb. Why's
it in "net?" Wouldn't it make more sense for it to be in "sound" or
"graphics?"

I too run the Diamond Stealth 2000. I have had it running in both hamm
and slink and it has always worked perfectly with both the SVGA XServer
and svgalib. What exactly is the problem that you're having?

I just updated to slink and now mutt refuses to send mail. When i start
up mutt it works fine, except for the fact that it is in black and white
instead of color, until I try to actually send a message that I have
composed. It says "Error sending message, child exited 127 ()." I can
send mail fi
and didn't tell me to do anything. What stupid thing am I
doing?
