I've also tried libc6 2.3.2-7 and 2.3.2-8 but they're both having that

Uh... I think you got that wrong. Isn't SMTP just for delivering/sending
mail? Receiving mail is either POP3 or IMAP but as far as I know, not
SMTP.

Hi,
What kind of CD-RW media is that? Is it a High-Speed media? Because if
not, you can only write them up to 4x speed

Indeed that would be awesome! $169 for a computer, $0 for Knoppix 3.3
and it would rock the Linux world for sure...
I bet one could even get non-computer people go buy one of these and
play with it because most people spend more money on cloths per month
that they would have to spend on that comput
Hi,
It seems like your X-Server isn't installed at all. Try
"apt-get install xserver-xfree86"
That should do the trick. Afterwards you may have to edit the
Configfile, I've always had to do that.

Have you tried "apt-get -f install"? If so, what did that return, any
errors?
It seems that the script is missing some directory in /usr/lib.
I did an apt-get dist-upgrade on my unstable today and had no trouble
whatsoever.

Hi,
Redhat has somehow managed to allow any user to shut the computer down
from the GNome logout menu. Usually, that only appears in case you're
running GNome2 as root - hence it almost never happens.
I have tried everything to get that enhanced logout menu in Debian
unstable / GNome2.x but I hav

Hi,
I would DEFINITELY not suggest to use unstable if you're a Debian or
even worse, Linux newbie. It may work 95% of the time but it may also be
either unstable or not work at all after an update. That's why it's
called sid, still in development.
I've been using sid for about a year now and duri

Hi,
The current ALSA-drivers are only for Kernel 2.4 and the first 2.5
releases, won't work with 2.6.x. Starting 2.5.something, ALSA is
included in the Kernel source and you do not need to download and
install it anymore.

There are two reasons why the module is not loading:
First of all, it's named "usb-uhci" not "uhci" hence the right command
is

running the stock Debian Woody installation, you have Kernel 2.2 which

Hence what I said still applies, you have to modify the /etc/lilo.conf
file and update lilo on your floppy disk by running lilo.

Hi,
This should be possible via APM or ACPI. In the latter case make sure
you have flashed the latest BIOS and have enabled ACPI in BIOS setup. In
the first case, make sure you have enabled APM in BIOS setup.
In any case, you may have to recompile the kernel to enable ACPI and/or
APM.

Since this is an IDE-drive we're talking about all you need to do is
enable the UDMA modus for that harddrive. You need to run - with root

Hi,
You can easily upgrade single packages - if you would've read the
apt-get output more thoroughly you would have probably tripped over
this:
XXX is already the newest version.
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 100 not upgraded.
Which means that if you want to upgrade one single p

First of all, you wanna try ALSA for your soundcard. Download the
packages alsa-driver, alsa-lib and alsa-utils from alsa-project.org.

module for the Audigy soundcards is either emu10k or snd-emu10k.

Hi,
Make sure you have the partition in your /etc/fstab, it has to look
something like this:
/dev/hda3 /data vfatuser,uid=1000,rw,exec,devmode=0666
Now all you gotta do is type
"mount /data"
as normal user in terminal/shell. Note that you're not supposed to type
"mount /dev

I don't know about XFree 4.2 but there is a XFree 4.3 backport. You can

I would recommend to install the nvidia drivers too, they're faster than
the XFree4 nv drivers.

Hi,
Here's the deal: I installed magicdev on my Debian unstable, GNome 2.2

start the file manager to display its contents.
And to my surprise, it's working just fine - with my CD-RW. I have two
