nstalling the nVidia driver is a process of installing two debs, reading
plain English instructions on how to build the software, then installing
the two resulting debs and restarting X. I really don't see how you can
mess it up.

How is it a bug that apparently the system is doing what it's told and
trying to bring up an interface as configured in /etc/network/interfaces?
If you don't want it brought up automatically, then why is eth0 set to
'auto'?
