Dinesh, Adaptec DirectCD will not write images. You'll most likely need to
get a commercial package such as Adaptec CD Creator Deluxe. (It's what I
use to burn the images I create using mkisofs on my Linux box.)

box/config. No IP Masq, etc. `dmesg' doesn't show any problems.

You can solve the problem by adding the ip and *any* hostname to /etc/hosts
on the box you're connecting to. This wil allow the IP to be resolved (even
if wrongly...). (This solution won't for my situation - thus my

(and weaknesses) and, I guess, if holding onto one particular OS is a
religious/faith thing for people, then I'm one

see what happens on each screen.
A big problem I once had that I first thought was forwarding was actually a
routing problem. (I wasn't using IP_Masq.) ICMP (Pings) were coming in on
eth0 and going out on the ppp0, but nothing was coming back. My ISP
K card under DOS? i.e. do you
have any diagnostics software available?

Of course, what I've done to get around this is to run IPX as my LAN
protocol and only use IP for internet traffic. Then
egment? The whole reason for subnetting is to split the same IP "class"
across multiple segments.
For routing, go with GateD and use OSPF or RIP II if you require routing.
Otherwise, if possible, (i.e. you have few hosts, routers, and changes,
etc.) just go with static routes. Less

GateD mailing list (info at URL above).
I have heard rumours of a RedHat GateD package (RPM format). If that is
available, that might be an option for you (thanks to the Debian-based RPM
package maintainer now available).

This sounds like a device lock contention problem. Try using /dev/ttyS1
for incoming (i.e. mgetty) and use /dev/cua1 for outgoing (i.e. PPP).

The nice thing is that you can "speak" multiple "languages" at the same
time on the same "telephone". i.e. You can configure TCP/IP (Linux
default), IPX (Netware), and others to all work at the same time on the
same ethernet interface.
