I can start gnome-session, then mount CDROM #4 from 6 disk set, and then find
the .gz and .dsc files. But that's as far as I can get. Which debian
install untility will work with these packages? I could try to do it from
command line if that would help. If I click on a .tar.gz file the Olde
can ls the directories on the cdrom. can migrate to "install" directory.

and months. it's exhausting.
and now STUCK. I can look through the directory of the potato CDROM-#1, but
I cannot find an executable anywhere to start a complete install. Newbie is
still trying. There must be a simple apt-get install from cdrom something
command, but everything I try seems to fail. TIA for clues,

Never could get apt-get install to work, but the following got me going:
apt-cdrom add for each of the 3 disks
apt-get update
dselect (Using Q option to force; was this unwise??)
dselect did install quite a few programs from cd's 1 and 2; but stopped
before cd #3.
Get above message on one of my machines with eth0 connection.
How to fix??
Thanks in advance,

dpkg "was interrupted". You must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a'
Well, I tried: "failed to write status record about gnome-pim to

I guess I have run out of space. Had about 930 megs in ext2

Most of the time I can get vi to insert characters after entering 'i'
Also know how to :wq etc
But I can't figure out how to delete characters: my book says

Two problems, apt-get has stopped mounting my periph PCMCIA

used to work fine.
So, as a workaround I mounted the

It is a Mitsubishi laptop, so that may be part of the problem. Anyway, when
I reboot, the graphical Debian/GNU login screen comes up. I think it must
have launched XF86.So when I enter login & password, I get speckled
screen with a big X in the middle and a dead mouse. With cont-alt-F2,
I enjoyed show very much. Commercial distros were there with BIG exhibits,
but I couldn't find my favorite: debian. Walked around small booths around
periphery, but maybe I missed it. Wasn't there a call for volunteers on this
newsgroup last week?
For my own education, I would like to start with a minimal linux like
CClinux. Then add a terminal (like the old Win3.1 terminal) so I can dial to
ISP.
Then lynx to the Debian ftp site. And then start to build a system that
would include X, KDE, a dial-up networking connection, and finally

I would prefer to dial up and finish that way.

As above. I am stuck. Can connect to ISP, but Netscape on Panel

With KDE & another linux flavor, kppp works and Netscape starts
