New temp-addresses are now generated when old ones become deprecated, as
expected.

I have an iMac running Debian stable. The only way I've discovered to turn
off the monitor (not just blank the screen, but turn it off) is to have X
running. Is there software to turn off the screen without running a display
manager?

Are there any terminal emulators that have an option to save the contents
of the terminal buffer to a text file? Gnome-terminal (the version
in woody, at least) doesn't seem to have such an option, and if I remember
correctly, xterm doesn't either.

I recently switched my locale from no_NO.ISO-8859-1 to no_NO.UTF-8.
This seems to work great, at least under Gnome and X. However, the
Linux console does not know that I'm using UTF-8 and interprets all
the UTF-8 that various programs spew out as ISO-8859-1.

ATI 3D Rage II+ which is not listed. All the other ATI "Rage"
models are listed as using the XF86_Mach64 X server.

instead:

It looks like the hardware is ok. I'm guessing software config or cable
problems. I

Boot with your rescue disk. Mount the partition that contains your
/etc directory. Edit /etc/X11/config, commenting out the line
"start-xdm". Reboot normally.
