Sorry I wasn't clear in the previous email. I have hibernation
working from the terminal, but not from XFCE. It is a warning that XFCE
isn't telling the whole story about hibernation. (It may also be a
caution for the Debian Installer folks.)

I have just installed Bullseye on a different drive on my main Linux
platform. No problems ere encountered and the system booted normally,
both as root and as a user (comp).
Without any sort of warning as the user, I can no longer use aliases,
nor the normal bash commands on th xfce4-termina

A few weeks ago after my usual monthly update/upgrade, xset +dpms
stopped working. Using dpms works as expected initially, but Xorg hangs
after about 15min in to power save state. Everything else except the
monitor works. I can ssh and reboot. Since then I have been disabling dpms.
