gdm- hangs on X (re)starts.

Good day. I have very long hanging w/ gdm (at least comparing w/ kdm on the same machine) - before it appears. How I can reduce that? By the way in /etc/X11/default-display-manager I have /usr/bin/gdm - the file that does not exist. Changing it to /usr/sbin/gdm - did not solve the problem.
