what is wrong with apt? Can you not adapt the sources.list file to the new
distribution and do a apt-get update and then upgrade?
I realize that this is not a real answer to your question, but often it

I don't know anything about /etc/rc.x, but the "Debian way" is to put
scripts is /etc/init.d from which links should be created with
update-rc.d. This will put a symlink in /etc/rc2.d which will be
executed when runlevel 2 is entered, which is after the boot process
and probably a better place. A

Hmm... can't help you with the module issue, as I always just build the ps/2
driver directly into the kernel, since it's more of an 'always on' type thing
than an 'on demand' one.
My problem with gpm/X was the exact reverse of yours - The mouse in X was
frozen while gpm was running. I solved that

Gimp or Ksnapshot doesn't quite work (I'm trying to get a screenshot
while playing mpeg2 streams). The video just appears as a bright blue

Most Pentium based systems have two EIDE buses. Normally if you have one hard
drive and one CDROM drive you'll have each as the master device on each bus.
This would result in the devices /dev/hda and /dev/hdc.
This is optimal as the EIDE protocol only allows one device at a time to be
