That's odd... I've been using Samba for awhile and have not had problems
with Fetchmail. Where I have run into trouble is with Sendwhale and the
mail gatewaying/queueing system I have setup. For awhile I had one massive
mail loop. :(

$ tar lcf - / | ( cd /mnt ; tar xvfpS -)
When comparing the new and original files, I notice these
differences:
1- All soft links have the current time as the date; the date
was not preserved:

How? By putting boot = /dev/hdc in lilo.conf, and then specifying
/dev/hda1 as root (which is what the disk will be when it gets put in the
other machine)
