I'm trying to compile Pine 4.00 on a hamm/i386 system, and it wants to
link in libtermcap.a, which is not a part of the termcap-compat package.

I have to install a program via source that needs termcap. How do I

If you can compile it yourself, change all the -ltermcap references into
-lncurses. The termcap emulation in ncurses is completely transparent.

I am attempting to comile Lynx 2.7.1. When it attempts to link in the
termcap library with '-ltermcap', The compile dies and says that
termcap isn't there. I looked in /lib and saw that a file beginning
with libtermcap is there. Why can't the compiler find the file, or i

No.
This is an xterm problem... It annoyingly sets TERMCAP. Just put "unsetenv
TERMCAP" in your .cshrc (or "export TERMCAP=&
