having installed suidmanager well after all other packages, how can i
make sure that suid.conf is properly configured?
i.e. is there a way to tell every single package installed to
reconfigure itself?

Hi,
We had the same problem here. Just edit /usr/sbin/suidregister, and add
the line at line 170:
my ($username, $groupname, $inode);
You will also need to edit the following lines so they look like this
(basically, just remove the "my" word out of each line:
-
# If a [ug]i
Yeah, I get the same.

I found the cause of my problems this morning, with eterm.
It appears that the suidmanager package is broken and this causes difficulties
upgrading other packages such as eterm.
suidmanager_0.41_all.deb is the broken version.

I don't understand how this happened:
/etc/cron.daily/suidmanager:
suidregister: /usr/bin/Eterm PERMISSION MISMATCH: was root.utmp 2755 changed
to root.root 2755
suidregister: /usr/bin/Eterm PERMISSION MISMATCH: was root.root 2755 changed
to root.utmp 2755
What should the correct ownership

I just keep a backup copy of suid.conf and overwrite the new version after I
have done a Debian upgrade. That was the easiest way to deal with it without
editing the file after every upgrade.

suid.conf is a configuration file that keeps track of what certain file
permissions should be. If the file in question is registered in

The suid.conf file is used to track programs with special permissions, so
that is easy to see
Is suid.conf the right place to change permissions for files (here: xcdroast)?
Which scripts change suid.conf?
Where can I read about suidmanager?
