Can you provide any error messages? What makes you think 7gen CPU doesn't work? I had some troubles with kernel 4.9 too, but my CPU is 6gen and my problem was only with sound codec. For now I suggest you to make sure your mobo firmware is updated, install kernel image (4.12) from "stretch-backports
