Oh dear But it gives me the same errors when I try to downgrade. :(.
So what should I do, just sit wait and pray that I don't have a long enough
power failure to drain my UPS and kill my current X session? (I presume It will
be broken if i try to restart X).

With 3.3.2.3a-6 the slink X package underwent a major redesign. It still
has a lot
of problems (I've still got one system which has WindowMaker broken ).
