Ah, that may be why. I was still running Netscape. In my mind, it shouldn't
matter though... IE, AFAIK, doesn't work this way.

Were you still running Netscape or had you exited when you deleted
the file?

It's not reliable here.
I don't seem to have the window-closing problem you all are
talking about, but it still hangs (100% CPU, seemingly Java-
related) and crashes.
(On slink, glibc 2.0.7.)

Netscape-smotif-4.08 is the only reliable version I've found. I too
can confirm the $ rm ~/.netscape method of temporarily fixing
netscape-4.61 hangs (or whatever). But the most successful fix at the
moment is $ dpkg --remove nestcape-smotif-4.6.1. ;-)

Oops, sorry everyone, I messed up.
I have tried deleting my ~/.netscape/cookie file, but it reappeared a while
later, just like the original. Where did it get that info from?
I have had the problem in Netscape Mail before, where you collapse the
toolbars, but they won't un-collapse. Deleting th

Hmmm... this is the first suggestion that has worked for me! i still get
bus errors trying to login to dhs.org, but i haven't gotten it to

It's the glibc from unstable.

sorry i'm dumb that would be 3.3.3.1.

Just to throw in some more controversy :-)
I have always ran netscape glibc 2 versions. (with communicator
3.something, 4.5, .51
and .6) except maybe the communicator 3.something.
I have never had a bus error, and I use netscape at least every day.
BTW I am using glibc2.1

I'm having trouble with netscape too. I've tried several things to get
around the problem, b
Yea, use the 4.08 version of Netscape. You might also try with statically
linked motif (it's a bit bigger, but avoids shared library probs).

well, then it seems, that the poor glibc2.1 people should go to the
libc5 version.

get the files from
ftp://ftp.netscape.com/pub/communicator/4.08/english/unix/supported/linux20/
and use the debian installer.

since you´re using glibc2.1, the best way would be - imho - either to
use the libc5 version to

same thing happens to me with 4.51 and 4.08, both linked with glibc2. i
think it's a glibc2.1 issue
