That's strange. I _always_ install via ftp, and it works very well. I
started with Debian as a newbie, and found the installation manual very
clear and valuable. Nowadays I can only find this one:

Boot hangs during the "now booting the kernel" stage can usally be
remedied by using the "Tecra" boot images from the FTP site.
I had a Toshiba laptop exhibiting the same problem during install and I
followed the instructions at :

Well, mas... I must admit I got into the thread just now, so I may be a little
repetitive.. The forst time I installed Linux in my life was when I put Debian
in my PC,
