Colin,
thank you very much.
your analysis of my system was correct. your advice regarding woody v.
potato was the answer to my problem. I just changed potato to woody,
and three minutes later ...
thanks also to everybody else who contributed to solve this problem.
cheers,
Jakob.

Hi Vineet,
thanks, but unfortunately that didn't help either.
For the moment my /etc/apt/sources.list is simply (this list is
recommended on http://www.debian.org/security):

deb http://security.d

I am refering to this security alert:
http://www.debian.org/security/2002/dsa-131
As I said, I just followed the instructions on
http://www.debian.org/security/, regarding the way to automatically get
security updates for my system. However, when running

One thing I noticed, which is probably just an artifact of word-wrapping on
your mailer, but make sure that there's no newline in your "deb ..." lines.
I'd be surprised if this didn't break stuff.
Secondly, it looks like you're snagging all of the official debian stuff just
fine. The problem
I have developed the following problem on one of my computers. No other
computer in our office experiences this problem.
When I run apt-get update it will eventually stop and time out on an entry.
For example, here is one output during an apt-get update session. It can
actually time out on diff

I am setting up a new box and I had woody and KDE installed from a CD I
got several months ago. I was installing some more stuff and somehow
ended up with the error output below. A step that occurred before this
was to start an upgrade from both woody and sid without a preferences
file. I ab

I am using Debian Linux, Woody.
I am trying to install gs-common and I had to use

Unpacking gs-common ( from gs-common )
dpkg: error processing /var/cache/ (--unpacking)
trying to overwrite 'use/bin/bdftops', which is also in package
ghostscript.
