I am not even sure why? Or how to get rid of it?

I seem to be having some problems config my mouse under X. I have a
Microsoft serial mouse and choose
/dev/mouse and Microsoft under XF86Setup. On startx I get the error
Cannot open mouse (no such file or directory)

I have been trying to configure XF86 setup. Some how I screwed up and now
debian boots into xwindows which would not be such a big deal but it locks
up. I can telnet in but how do I re-configure it to boot to command prompt
instead?

I have tried and tried to get Windows 2000 to see my linux box through
Samba so I can share files etc. But no matter what I tried I have no
success. Is there anyone out there who knows how to do this?

I made sure I had all of the files suggested but STILL get this error when
installing Pine..
After issuing the command
dpkg-source -x pine4_4.21-1.dsc
debian/rules binary
usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lncurses
But I have checked and I do have libncurses5-dev
I thought I had fixed it...
