apt-get error

Hi,

I am trying to issue the command apt-get upgrade. The errors I receive are

You have unmet dependencies:

Try running apt-get –f install.

If I run this command I get the error

dpkg: ldconfig not found on PATH

NB: roots path should usually contain /usr/local/sbin /usr/sbin /sbin

I am not sure how this error occurred, but if anyone is able to help I would appreciate it.
