Hi all,
I was just wondering if anyone has noticed availability of support for
CMI9738 sound chip in the new kernel. I just wanted to find out before I
download anything.
Once upon a time a patch was available that would run this chip. I can run
the chip using i8x0 sound driver using OSS, but I w

Hi all,
Someone once mentioned they managed to pipie sound from Quake 3 Arena
through arts in KDE.
I'm working on getting Alsa working, but in the meantime I thought I might
just try this arts piping thing once.
I know sound is sluggish then but I just want to satisfy my curiosity... :
-)

Just a quick update on my efforts to solve this sound problem with Q3A.
After trying 1.32b point release and after a *lot* of googling I am
convinced that the problem (crashing with sound) is related to i810 sound
driver. I am using i810 sound driver (OSS) (which is reporttedly 'very
alpha') and s

I tried this. output in shell still shows that /dev/dsp is not available.
Note that I can listen to mp3s. Q3A can run without sound but not with.
Still need to try Q3A 1.32 point release though.

Basically, if you really want X now, try vesa drivers. That will give you
GUI until you have a stab at nvidia drivers.
Otherwise, download non-free (proprietary) nvidia drivers from their
website. There are two files (tarballs of course) and you need to match
the numbers. Every
Thanks guys!!!
I will have a look at that point release tonight... I didn't know that was
available...
And one more time I will look into stopping that artsd!
Not many people in my street will be sleeping tonight if I get Q3A working

Hi All,
I have recently installed Q3A on my debian Woody box. I can start the game
in KDE from K menu, but no sound.
I read solutions to this and I tried running under twm and it works.
However, I noticed that when I start Q3A from twm window manager, I can
play the first level, and then when it

Hi all,
Yesterday I finally got to upgrade my woody box. Later I noticed that the
system froze when I was performing apt-get upgrade from debian security
repository (whish was not available before).
Has anybody else notice this? The problem happened while I was opening a
pdf file from my email. I

OK, now I get it. You will need to install kernel-source-2.4.18 or
something like that and compile your own kernel with

If those powerbooks have SCSI ports, then you might be able to connect a SCSI cdrom
drive or alternatively another powerbook with cdrom drive using

Hi all,
I have two questions regarding free software that can be used with MSN:

was something called everybuddy (Is that what I should apt-get?).
2.) Is there a program that will download Hotmail email (I know one versio

There are many reasons why audio-video may be out of sync. The problem seems to even

components of the power supply). I would later realise that I *used* to

I changed the power supply (to a higher wattage, power supply for Pentium
