My first guess would be that your motherboard is 'fried'. I had this problem once before and ended up buying a new system... Can you smell anything on the motherboard at all? Any burning plastic smells? Secondly, when it happened on my computer, floppy was spinning, and CD drives were spinning for as long as computer was on. To me this indicated a fried motherboard. If your computer was not on the powerbar (the one with reset switch), it is quite possible that spike in electricity killed your board (and a few other things in it). Possible suspects are HD (if no light on it, probably dead), and don't be surprised if you're up for new CD drive, burner, etc. >I bought a POST card and tested the system and >got "FF";and according to the code book the system passed the POST. >Is it possible - is it likely that my internal speaker might be causing >my system to appear to be dead ? Not very likely from what I've seen... But maybe someone else has different experiences... Another thing... Try flushing the BIOS. Modern motherboards have a special switch for this. In some cases you need to take out the battery, refer to your motherboard manual for details. Flushing the bios sometimes works before you know it's over. Good luck!!!
