How do I automate standard input for interactive shell programs?

2010-08-03 Thread Timothy Legg
Hello, I was bored. I was playing the worm game from bsdutils and through the tedium of it all, a thought passed through my mind. "Hey, this can be automated. By following a repetitive procedure, I can win the game - any time, every time!" It also occured to me that computers are very well sui

Installing TTF Unicode fonts in Debian

2010-03-04 Thread Timothy Legg
I am embarrased to admit I spend way too much time at the console so it is these stupid X windows problems that really trip me up. I need to add a font and noticed that my gnome menu is acutally missing a tool for managing fonts. On my system in particular, it seems that fonts are stored wherever

Crashed dd, kill -9 doesn't even kill it.

2010-02-25 Thread Timothy Legg

can't mke2fs hdb, says already mounted, but it isn't

2009-12-15 Thread Timothy Legg
Here is a good puzzler. I got a second ATAPI disk in my machine that I was able to partition with fdisk, but cannot mkfs it. It says that the device is already mounted but when I try to umount it, it says it is not mounted. the blkid command I ran on the device contradicts with what df tells me.

One GB Limit on RAM?

2006-03-08 Thread Timothy Legg
Hello, I haven't used Debian for several years.  I am glad to be back in the game again. I decided to install 2GB of RAM on my Compaq Evo (D31vm).  As this is a dual boot system, I do know for certain that the memory is accepted by the chipset.  Also the datasheets for this machine reflect a comp
