Hi
I just installed Mint 10 Debian and my additional drivers option isn't
available in the main menu. My Graphics are horrible and I need to see if
additional drivers are available.
When I update my personal info in about me and close it the information is
not being saved.
I appreciate any help.

It would help most if you could tell us the _all_ the details you know
about your graphics card. If XF86Setup doesn't work though, you can
use xf86config. Its not as nice, but it works _very_ reliable.

If you want to do C, C++, Ada95, Python or Perl in Gtk widget set
the glade
http://glade.pn.org/index.html
http://www.debian.org/Packages/unstable/devel/glade.html
is quick easy, although still a bit buggy.

*Possible* faulty memory. If you try compiling something like the
kernel then
that will tell you nearly for certain.

Do you think they should be charged double for putting in
pictures and html?

If its based on the es1370 chipset (It will be if its pci) then
upgrade to the 2.2.* kernel and put the es1370 in.
If its an isa card then check it is not pnp. If it is AFAIK you
need to use isapnp tools. If not the *post more details*.

y soundcard are trying unsuccesfully to share irq 11.
I can't change it in my bios because the only option is to change
irq 11 from pnp/pci to legacy isa, which moves both to another
interupt, both the same one.
Thanks in adavance,

You could try replacing the kernel image on the hd (from disk) and
running lilo again, as it may sort it.

Have you got the most recent version of apt, as I had a _really_
old version that my upgrade to slink had for some reason not
upgraded. Once that was done, everything worked fine.

Use lilo, then you can boot either. Just set up your
/etc/lilo.conf for duel boot. (I haven't got a sample
handy, but man lilo to get the format, and if all else fails
look in the archives for one, as I know many people have
posted there lilo.conf files many times.

The computer is a 486 about ?50Mhz? and uses MCA bus.
Thankyou,
Peter Allen
Where did you get the tar from. It sounds vaguely like you have
got one part of a series of tars. The tar should be about 70Mb.

The PCI64 is a very different card. You need 2.2 kernel
and to compile in ess 1370 support. If you have already done
that then I have no idea. (I don't have that card anymore
because I didn't like it.)

anyway if you do does that give you root permissions of "super root"
permissions.
Thanks,
Peter Allen
My box has even survived an incredible big mistake I just made.
I was running as root, in /usr
Instead of typing rm -r gimp* I typed rm -r *
Thank goodness star office is big enough to get in the way of anything
important being deleted before I realised my mistake.
Peter Allen
know that would be a dodgy
hack if it did work, but it was worth a try.)
Thanks very much,
Peter Allen
It should work fine. http://www.xfree86.org/cardlist.html
lists your card in x 3.3.3.1 so you may have to upgrade.

I seem to remember that the gif licence says that any program that makes
gifs has to pay 24cents to the gif patent holders per copy sold.
This is obviously a problem for free software. Try png instead.

I am pretty sure it is a hardware limitation

The kernel stays the same size, it can just run the bigger size,
hence no problem.

64Kb chunks when needed, so
it doesn't run out of memory. The theoretical maximum size
for a bzImage is 2Gb, although in pracice it is limited by
the amount of memory.
