Also, if this helps, here's a dump of "route print" from the win98 machine:
Active Routes:
Network Address Netmask Gateway AddressInterface Metric
0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0209.202.63.90209.202.63.90 1
127.0.0.0255.0.0.0127.0.0.1
First of all i'd like to apologise for the late reply (real life stuff and all
that), so here's what i got:

Yea, actually i'm surprised that something did in fact come up..

They have consecutive IP's (192.168.1.1 and .2), and they're connected with a
crosswired UTP cable. Mask is 255.25
IP Addresses:
Win: 192.168.1.2
Debian: 192.168.1.1
Subnet Mask: tried both 255.255.0.0 and 255.255.255.0

I have a windows 98 <-> Debian LAN at home, and I can't
seem to get either computer to ping the other one. Are there any special
configurations I have to set up to make a doze box talk to a linux box? A
website address would be very useful if you could supply it. Thanks
:)

The first place I would look would be the "Linux Hardware Database"

According to pnpdump, my NIC is programmed to use irq3 i've tried all
available irq's and still nothing. Now... the card claims to have a
programmable irq, but it didn't come with any manual, and i've had a helluva
time trying to find some way to switch the card's irq in debian.

Here's the situation:
I have an NE2000 compatible NIC (jumperless ISA), and when I
installed Debian, it was detected and ne.o loaded fine. After that i did a
pnpdump, and since then the NIC hasn't been responding (device
busy)
The "act" light on the back of the NIC is flashing, and I
