I give up!
I have tried to configure DOSEMU to run on my Debian system without
success.
I am dual-booting NT from the primary partition, so I can't build from
/dev/hda1 otherwise it comes up with "cannot load NTLDR" :)
I have a bootable DOS 6.2 diskette here which if I build a diskimge from

Can anybody suggest a good off-line news-reader that I can use with Linux?
I'd prefer one that comes with the Debian distribution - I've looked at
Netscape, but don't like the interface, I'd prefer a text-based one.
I just want to be able to connect to my news server, grab headers and

When I close my X session, one or more instances of the following message
appear:
xterm: fatal IO error 32 (Broken pipe) or KillClient on X server ":0.0"
Any ideas what causes this?

I want to upgrade one or two of the packages on my system beyond the stable
distribution. The newer packages are all requiring libc6, but that conflicts
(in DSELECT) with libc5 which is a dependence to a _very_ large number of
programs. =:|
What should I do? Forget it and wait?

Can you use dselect and the unstable packages vis FTP. If so how? I couldn't
seem to find a Packages file with all the unstable stuff (for instance tcl8)
How should I setup the FTP packages?

I have just built and (it would seem) successfully installed the 2.0.33 kernel.
The previous version I had was 2.0.29.
I had previously built and installed the NTFS read-only driver in v29 and it
had worked fine. Under 33 I am getting this error message when I do the make
mount:

Most likely, you installed YP (also called NIS), but didn't set it up
right.
If you don't need NIS (or don't kn
Lets put it like this.
I tried installing FreeBSD, but gave up because the install routine was buggy
and plainly didn't work at points (this was to allow installs over a PPP link).
Debian had a straight-forward FAQ with "d/l this, this and this. If you have
one of these then you will need this"
How do I go about giving the Win95 workstations on my network access to the Net
via my Linux box?
They have TCP/IP installed and are using HOSTS & LMHOSTS files for name
resolution. I can ping both ways server->Win95 , Win95 ->server, but the Win95
boxes can't see beyond the server. The server
I have started receiving this message since installing the remainder / most of

The domain on my home net is called watkins (original huh?).

Your pppd keeps sending Config Requests until it times out. Normally
LCP ConfReq is followed by "received LCP ConfAck" -- received from
remote pppd. So, in your case remote pppd is not running.
In minicom wait unitl you receive a line of garbage with many curly
brackets. That's remote pppd send

That did it. Thanks a bunch. I've been able to d/l most of the distribution
this evening!!!
Thanks a million.

I am attempting to get PPPD to work from my Debian Linux machine with a
marked lack of success
I have been firing up Minicom to dial and log on, then CTRL-AQ to drop
out of Minicom without reseting the modem (as described in the PPP-
HOWTO) and then entering a command thus:
pppd -d -detach /d
