SSH Version OpenSSH_2.3.0p1, protocol versions 1.5/2.0.
Compiled with SSL (0x0090600f).

Right, you're problem is coming from here. This is not a problem
caused by the scripts but by inittab.

There should be a problem with your installation of gcc like
the gcc output is indicating.

point VMWare to /usr/src/kernel-headers-2.2.17/

Nethertheless, to see the resources in use, type under X:
xrdb -query
Try also:
wrdb -merge ~/.Xdefaults

ftp-master'').
So you need to change woody to unstable (of sid) in your
sources.list and to do and apt-get update.

olves this problem.
> Is there a more elegant way to "rehash" the binary paths?
Try settin the `checkhash' option of bash:
shopt -s checkash
So bash will look in the path each time the hashed program is
not found.
You can also type:
hash -r
That will clear the hash table used by bash.

Try to see if it work with es1370, as SB128PCI can have a es1370
or es1371 chip. Try also to disable PnP Os in the BIOS.

apt-cache search regexp
will show every package that matche the regexp,
apt-cache show packagename
will show the detailed description of the package.

Don't know who is the culprit, I just give the whole path and it
works...

If you want APT to invoke DPKG with the `--force-overwrite'
option, you have to add the following lines to your
/etc/apt/apt.conf file:
DPkg
{
Options {"--force-overwrite";}
}
Good luck
