Is there something in the kernel configuration that is required to
make dhcp work?
You need CONFIG_FILTER enabled in your kernel. It is in networking
options in menuconfig.

Do you have experience in that it will? Or is this a more or less,

In other words, have you seen it happen?

If you are cloning it to an identical hard drive, you can use dd, eg:

me stumped :)
I have just set up a 486 running slink to be a dial-up server (ip masq, 2.3.3

It is getting many frame errors, seen when I run 'ifconfig ppp0'. The

Hello all,
I have a squid server set up as a transparent proxy, (Squid/2.1.PATCH2). It
runs great most of the time, except occasionally:

It ran fine for two days, happened once one day, then 12 times in one night,

Does anyone know where I can find a howto on setting up ssh?
I have tried running the script to get the hosts using dns, but it doesn't
find any hosts. Is there a way to give it an IP address to try, and have it
add the host?
Thanks in advance.

I'm having a problem getting vmware to install on slink with 2.2.3 kernel.
Something to do with include files. First, I still had the 2.0.36 headers
installed. I upgraded these to the 2.2.3 versions.
The error that it is reporting is that there is no include path to find

I had the same problem, the best work-around is to instal a 2.2 kernel
compiled with vesa framebuffer support, then use the xf_fbcon x server.
The info on the framebuffer is in the Documentation directory in the kernel

Hello all,
Just a quick one, I am trying to get netscape 4.5 going on slink, it seems
to need libg++ 2.7, the old libs version on slink is 2.8.
Is this on hamm and will it do any damage installing it? If not, where can
I get it in a .deb?
Thanks.
My system has been running Debian 2.0 fine for several weeks now, but now
locks up on boot.
It first happened when I was in X and was changing routing, IP addresses
etc. The machine locked up solid and I had to power reset it. When it
rebooted, it fixed several errors on the drive. It locked up
Is there any way to change the scan rates of the framebuffer in the 2.2

Can anyone offer me any advice on setting up diskless machines?

My XF86Config is stripped down, as the fb docs say it will use the default
res, I have specified Depth 16.
Any ideas?

I have set up 2.2.1 and have it booting into a high res mode, it shows the
logo on startup etc.
However, fb0 is not appearing in /dev. Is there anything else I need to do?

I have been trying to get XFree86 to work with a Trio3d AGP card, and it
doesn't seem to be supported.
Somebody sent me a link to an update for red hat to support it, but I would
prefer to stick with Debian.
I am using Debian 2.0 I have upgraded to the XFree86 from slink, and have
