Hey everybody,
Just installed sarge, GRUB is all messed up so I'm trying to make a
boot floppy to be able to boot for now. But I can't find any choices
for Make a Boot Floppy in the menu system on the netinstall disc like
there is on the woody disc. Can you please tell me how to do this with
(although shouldn't it be pwcheck_method:saslauthd ?) but when I try to
login via an MUA it rejects my system user passwords can you
please help me with what this means?
Thanks!

I cannot find a sendmail-HOWTO on the web?
What's the next best resource for sendmail?

Following the Print-HOWTO, I did this from root:

A while back, I reported that
# mount -t msdos /dev/hda1 /mnt
was not working. Someone said that
running Norton Disk Doctor on /dev/hda1 (C:)
from within Win95 resolved a similar problem.
So I ran Norton Disk Doctor on /dev/hda1.
It corrected a minor problem, but the mount

Yes, the serial device appears in /proc/ioports

Here's what I've done:
0. I installed isapnptools and set up the
/etc/isapnp.conf file, which is provided
below. I based the configuration on the
readout for my modem within Win95.
1. I went through various setserial commands
as in the /usr/doc/isapnptools/README.modules
file.

In the BIOS, I turn the 'PnP OS' option off.
In the 'PCI peripherals' section of the BIOS,
I disable the two 'Onboard serial devices'
(as these two 9-pin ports are currently unused).
When I look into Win95, I look at the settings
for my modem and find that IRQ 4 is used for
address 0x3f8, with DMA

X11, emacs, et al seem to run fine. My biggest

to work, like the PnP modem, PnP sound card,
and PCL printer [BTW, I've concluded that unless

My LSL Debian 1.3 installation came with the
LPRng variant of the lpd setup.
Does lpd need to run in the background for
lpr to work? I thought it did, but when
I do this:

# ps -ef | grep lpd
it is clear that lpd exits immediately.
What's up?

Two questions:
1. If I used dvihp to generate a PCL file, can I then
go to a DOS shell in Win95 and say:
c:> copy PCL.file LPT1
I tried this, but first page was very messed up.
2. I tried:
# dvihp -Plp1 text.dvi
But got some "connection refused" message.
Ditto for the 'lpq'
Earlier, I reported that:
# cu --speed 115200 ---line /dev/ttyS1

cu: /dev/ttyS1: Line in use
To fix this, I did:
# vigr

# newgrp dialout
Then:
# cu --speed 115200 --line /dev/ttyS1

# dmesg | grep tty
tty01 at 0x02f8 (irg = 3) is a 16450
# ls -l /dev/tty01
ls: /dev/tty01: No such file or directory
Questions:
1. Why does /dev/tty01 appear in dm
The modem hangs off 0x2F8, with IRQ 3 the active
interrupt request. 'setserial -a /dev/ttyS1' verifies this
data.
But if I say (from root):
# cu -s 115200 -l /dev/ttyS1
I get a "Permission denied" error, even though
'ls -l' shows /dev/ttyS1 to be read/writable by
user&group.
If I go to kermit
I run Win95 and Linux 2.0.29 off separate hard drives
running off an AMD K6 platform. Win95 uses a
Plug-and-Play modem from Computer Peripherals, Inc.
(a ViVa 56LC-SM). Linux, however, cannot dial out
on this device; in fact, cu/kermit cannot even connect
to the device.

I have not yet tried to install LILO. But I have rebuilt
Linux with a different device-set about 2-3 times.
I'm not sure how that could impact the /dev/hda1
partition since that drive is excluded from my boot
setup files.
BTW, /dev/hda1 has about 2GB of Win95 software,
so my preference is to avoi

Here's what I tried:
0. Looked at /proc/filesystems to verify
that VFAT was supported.
1. Ran "dmesg | more" to verify that /dev/hda1
was the correct partition.
2. Ran mount and got this result:

I have read through some of the man-pages
for "mtools", but I cannot determine how to
move a file between a DOS hard drive and
a Linux hard drive. [By "DOS hard drive",
I mean the drive containing Win95, etc.;
by "Linux hard drive", I mean a 2nd drive
containing Debian 1.3.]

The port the mouse plugs into is a PS/2 port
