So it seems like this is a problem of the X server.
Does anybody know how to go around it or fix it?
Thank you.

Hello,
I just installed openoffice 2 and gave it a try.
It says
javaldx: Could not find a Java Runtime Environment!
but seems to open all right. However I can't figure out how to do
anything useful in it like for example opening a new writer document.
In the File-> New there is only the option "

application.
I liked it better before and I want to go back to that behavior but I cannot
find a setting in the Desktop Manager, and google shows nothing.
Suggestions?
Thanks.

Thanks for the detailed responses.
You're right. I haven't restarted KDE or X yet. Didn't know you have to do
that.

Hello,
I did my daily apt-get upgrade a couple of days ago, and I noticed there were
a whole bunch of packages being held, most of them kde. Trying a couple of
them by hand revealed they were in conflict with other packages that needed
to be removed and whatnot. So I did a dist-upgrade.
Now I

Hi,
I got two computers in my office, both using Debian Sarge. One 2.6.9, the
other 2.6.7.
They both can ping the outside world (like google.com), but they can't ping

Let's call them machine A and machine B.
When I try to ping B from A I get

Don't know, but you'd have a much better chance of getting a response if you
didn't post html. Some people don't even read that stuff, because of
security, and because some clients don't support it.

I would suggest moving to a 2.6 kernel, why not 2.6.9 for example, and make
sure you load the scsi_mod modules: sg, ide_scsi, sd_mod, usb_storage. Check
with lsmod.

Perhaps you need to compile an initrd and you forgot to give the

option to make-kpkg...

Right now I'm pretty happy with it.
Hello,
I have spent about the last week setting up the Debian AMD64 Sid port on my
brand new AMD64 nforce3 box.
I was wondering if anybody can explain the following behavior.
I have two ide DVD drives, one a regular ROM, the other RW. Since the
ide_generic module does not support DMA, I learn

Figured it out.
It was the flash player plugin.
Ahem. Which the alioth true64 HOWTO clearly warns does not work and the only
way to use it is to install a 386 system and chroot to that...
Sorry.

This is true. Didn't think about it like that.
