logfiles for shutdown (gdm restarts after starting shutdown)

when i click on shutdown on my sid system it starts to shutdown and then GDM will restart with the logon screen so i have to shutdown again. this only happens when i run shutdown from the menu and not from pressing the power button. is there a shutdown log i can check? it's a really weird behavio
