I think the virtual consoles are enabled . Here is my latest
configuration. I have tried a few.
CONFIG_VT=y
CONFIG_VT_CONSOLE=y
CONFIG_SERIAL=y
# CONFIG_FB is not set
# CONFIG_SERIAL_CONSOLE is not set
# CONFIG_LP_CO
More details:
The box has a VIA 8237SATA, chipset revision 128, according to boot messages.
