stuck a Voodoo3 card in it. With more VRAM the video performance of the
Internal chipset is acceptable, but I figure the Voodoo3 even running as a dumb
16MB frame buffer was better.

y fmslabs is doing tons of traffic and rsync just adds to the load.
Now you can rsync linux-2.4-paulus and linux-2.4-bk from penguinppc.org. We
update the bk tree every time a commit happens and then export it to rsync.

dual/triple boot. Bootx also causes cystic acne, migraine headaches, and early

You can PCI cards to it. IDE is fine for workstations. Add a PCI scsi card.
Even with a scsi card or ATI video card, it is still a good deal for 360mhz
ultrasparc workstation. We use them for firwalls and small servers.

I emailed Phase 5 (www.phase5.de) about possibly making CHRP motherboards
for the purpose of running Linux for PowePC and recieved a pleasant
response. Phase 5 is a well known maker of PPC accelerators for Macs and
Amigas.

A couple weeks ago, it was discovered that the DMA driver for PowerMacs
wasn't fully OSS compatible. Programs that use the calls which are missing
will seem to not function properly. I saw that there were some updates to
the driver in recent kernels but I'm not sure what the "fixes" were.

I think that with Darwin in development and mkLinux R1 coming soon, the
impetus for a Hurd-PPC won't be very high. The microkernel unix for PPC pool

Just a slight errata, there is support in 2.3.x for Power3 processors. It's

I rsynced up to 15 from pre20 and compiled the kernel. Boots just fine using
bootx on the 7200 I stole from work on Friday.
Using the novideo option as well as video=platinumfb
I can try to OF boot this 7200 but I don't want to develop a migraine this

Alright, the unmaskirq thing made a world of difference here. Before when
i would tar zxvf a large 50+ MB file, the system would become _extremely_
unresponsive. Now the machine doesn't hiccup.
