Ken, I haven't tried "ofpath /dev/sda4" but it may be useful in a few

It was only to find out if you had the unpatched version of it. As
Shyamal remarked, it doesn't like dev/sdX (since the 2.6.12 kernel
changes). If you've got a version
I don't have a very good answer on the Sarge kernel or package. I tried
the 31R04 netinstall iso, which is Sid? This 31R04 crashed on boot. I
*think* this means the Sid kernel won't run on the latest PowerMac G5
dual proc.
So I *think* this means the only candidate for this hardware is the

Thanks guys.
Shyamal, it just so happens that /dev/sda4 is correct for me too. On my
box its the root though. I just didn't understand the rest of your
directions, and I am not used to the Apple partition. So I am probably
*still* misunderstanding.

Getting frustrating.
I got a working yaboot from the YDL install.
I did the rest of the install from the debian testing "etch" netinstall.
I installed the 2.6.12-1-powerpc64 kernel
yaboot, expecting its kernel, fails with either "no or invalid device"
or "no such file"

Shamal, the only two netinstalls that will load are the latest testing,
run as expert64 and YDL's run as install-g5. The older sarge stuff just
crashes. Do I have the wrong Sarge stuff? i.e. is there a 64bit version
I should use?

Hi John,
If it is that serious, just use the sarge installer net install
disk. Do
Thanks guys. Shyamal or Sven can you walk me through the fix? If I don't
get this working I have to return the G5 to the store.
I am assuming that I need to mount the root drive while booted off the
cd, and copy in or change the yaboot.conf or both?
also in ref to bug #339561 I have SATA 150 d
