i just got it from here:

untarred it and ran the install script you get, as root. then i installed it
for each user by running
/usr/local/OpenOffice.org1.0.1/setup
as that user.
no problem!

yes, for X, edit the file ~/.xmodmap, there I have an entry
keycode 22 = Backspace Delete Delete
