For the records:
I finaly disassembled the powerbook. It is definately the board/controller.
All data is still accessible while connected to the linux machine and
another disk with macosx does not boot as well. Pretty incomprehensible why
this happened shortly after I played around with ybin. Prob

Yes, if I'd have the choice. A G4 PB is worth next to nothing. However, I'll

So, next step failed. There is no target mode anymore ;-(
Subsequently there is only one hope left. Maybe it is the controller and not
the disk. Time to have a look at ifixit.com.
I'll check out the live-CD. Maybe it comes with tools I am not aware of yet.
Cheers,

Cool, thx. I think first I try to do a target mode with my Linux box and use
testdisk and smarttools in order to gain information or even save data.
Btw, do you know a proper live-rescue-CD for PPC?

Yes, I was able to boot the macosx and debian rescue CD but neither OS from
disk.
Thus I'll do my tests and post my findings.
Thank you,

Benjamin,
the yaboot.conf I posted was just an example for I can't properly remember,
not to mention read, my yaboot.conf anymore. The only thing I know for sure
is, that macosx resides on /dev/hda3 (not hda4 like in this probably faulty
example conf). Consider it as a typical dual boot conf with
I can't read the yaboot.conf anymore. But it might have been like this:

The disk is quite new and I had never issues and just now after playing with
ybin and rebooting a couple of times it dies? Seems to be a big coincidence
but, on the other hand, who knows?
Yes, the very important files are somewhere else available but all the not
so important ones. Damn.

Hi list,
I have a G4 Powerbook (1Ghz, 12") and I installed macosx 10.39 and debian
ppc 5.03. Everything worked fine but there was one little annoyance. The
default OS was set to debian and I wanted to change it. First I used
yabootconfig which was a bit silly as I ended up with debian only. Next
