Hi and thanks to all
planb sounds like the type of kernel level support I was hoping to find,

If you are executing a shell from Xwindows, you may need to do "su"
first.

hi
is it a ppc system? There are some specific kernel modules written for
getting sound on your macintosh - depending on what kernel you have
installed and the machine, these modules are something like
dmasound_core & dmasound_pmac
Try executing "modconf" and in the list of modules look for somet

This pismo boots the debian #1 cd with the "c" option.

I have downloaded the ppc iso today.
So far I can report that the disk fails to boot the following devices
New World G3 Pismo Powerbook
New World G3 Imac
Old World 9600 ppc
The disk appear as a valid HFS standard disk on a MacOS desktop however
I can't provide any more info about the boot failure

Hi Folks
I have a bizarre event ;)
A mac 8600/350 which has run linux from bootX before in its lifetime has
suddenly decided to fail.
I installed a fresh hd for this test and a new version of 8.5 (and 8.0)
unstuffed the bootx folder installed the kernel and ramdisk, and clicked
the bootx app. No

Not to make an issue out of this but for new users to Linux the amount
of information and its relevance to "their" concern is very difficult to
correlate.

Most likely you will need to load a module for the scsi card before the
scsi drive appears as an option, that is what I have found with intel

from the installer might work.

I have had success with a Matrox Millenium card out of a PC, good for MacOS and
works for Linux. There are quite a few pitfalls awaiting the unsuspecting on
this subject, my experience is that unless the onboard ROM can be changed to
talk to the Mac hardware your PC card wont work.
Have a look
I understand :)
May I suggest you use the BootX approach. It may not be as "pure" as booting
and installing from a cd but it has a good chance of working.
