I had the same problem so I tried building 2.4.24-ben1. That built fine
so I suspect something might have happened to something in the source

proper command on boot. I figured that the only time I'll
intentionally shut the computer down is when I move it or reboot for a
new kernel. In those events, the box will go back into Server Mode

Yes, two normal boot chimes without any pause between them. In fact
the first is even cut short a little by the start of the second.

I should have read further down the thread before responding. This
does work for me. Is this something that is relatively permanent as
long as I don't echo the second string above?

There is a very unusual double chime when rebooting after running quik
from the Woody install floppies. Could there be any hardware
resetting going on at that point that would again disable the mac

Did you change stable to woody in your /etc/apt/sources.list?

OK response. I linked /dev/modem to /deb/ttyS0 and see that when
minicom is started, the macserial modules is loaded automatically. I'm
using kernel 2.4.14-ben0. If there is anything else I tell you, let me
know. I doubt this is significant but I aliased serial to off in
/etc/modutils/aliases.

I can't say its the best solution but what I did was:
cd /var/cache/apt/archives
dpkg -i --force-overwrite ./powerpc-utils_1.1.3-5_powerpc.deb

Are saying that a G3 will never do DVD playback in Linux? Have you
seen the Mac OS X.1 DVD player?

configure the AudioCD Reader plugin to "Read Digital CD Audio"
To play a CD in xmms, click the add file button and select the
/dev/cdrom device. Actually, I just noticed that xmms automatically
puts the tracks in the playlist when the CD is loaded.

It is now. Sound worked on my ibook2 as of 2.4.10-pre10 but the mixer

been able to install it and using benh's kernel source tree, I was
able to get a lot working. My next goal is to get my X 4.1 to work

Anyone know of any "hacked for iBook" Debian CDs? Other leads? One
idea is to install Yellow Dog Linux and then start the Debian install
