Benoit,
after two weeks of experimenting or so, I gave up. I run Debian now on a
UltraSPARC from SUN and the installation was a lot easier.
I think the only thing which really helps is to install MacOS and use the
other boot loader available (I can't remember its name). But I did not want to

I just wanted to recycle a mac we have here

I missed to attach OF configuration of Guillaume. Here it is.

that Debian is simply not working on the 9500 from Apple (for me and order an

An installation cycle is now really qui(c)k, so it is not a big effort to
modify something in the procedure.
Thanks again for your help.

It seems to me, that the first PowerPC image on ftp.fsn.hu in
/pub/CDROM-Image/debian-unofficial is broken. On CD 1, base2_2.tgz in the
discs-powerpc subdirectory extracts only with crc errors.
Rainer.
Thank you for the quick reply.

Having in mind the trouble it causes to me, I would prefer a simple BIOS ;-)

But so far, I can boot only in the installation. Not the system :-(

I installed Debian for the PowerMac on a PowerMac 9500. After completing the
installation (dh_bootstrap), I wanted to make the system bootable directly
from the hard disk, but I learned Quik does not yet work for PowerMac. The I
wanted to make a boot floppy. But making boot floppies is also not

It is likely that stuffit needs upgrading (I will check the installed version
later on). Am I supposed to boot with the rescue disk from
/debia
in binary
mode).
So could anybody tell me how to boot Debian on my powermac (or tell me
where this is documented). I think this should also go into the
install instructions.
Thanks.
Rainer.
