Dennis,
Yes, that was the issue.
Even after amending it with the suggested fix, subsequent GRUB updates
continued to break the boot process.
Bullseye's cycle can't come soon enough...

Hey Rick,
Quick question, how do you manually enter repositories at
installation? For me, it always defaults to selecting a preexisting,
non-functional mirror off a list, and I never see any option to enter
anything manually, like it does by default in the ppc64 installations.
Thanks,
Noah

Hey all, it is I again.
GRUB initially installed fine, and this G5 even booted off it several times,

Hi all,
I was installing from a USB thumb drive, which the installer

Okay, so I tried again with everything on default mount points, and the same

This appears to be some kind of problem with manual vs. automatic

Just wanted to put this out there.

Yaboot can be installed in place of GRUB as a fallback.

Dennis,
Before you give up, have you tried installing 'debian-ports-archive-keyring'
from the Sid repository?
The May 2018 builds will complain if that isn't installed post-installation.

Hi Adrian,
Unfortunately, the issue is still not resolved. Audacious, Audacity,
and VLC (and I'm sure, many others) are still throwing "Illegal
instruction".
At first I thought it was because the baseline was changed to POWER5
instead of POWER4. Altivec or not, the PowerPC970 is still based on

Well, thank you for doing what you could.

Adrian,
Really? I thought that since the PowerPC 970 is built on POWER4, that would be
the baseline.
I'm confused.

Hi Adrian,
I just wanted to alert you that VLC, Audacity, Audacious, and many other
applications, do not start when launched from a graphical menu, and immediately
give out "Illegal instruction" when launched via Terminal in PPC64, thus
rendering the PPC64 installation unable to use a great num
luck with GRUB and...everything else, when you can get to it.

Hi Christian,
What is the recommended way to install Arctic Fox in Linux? All this time, I've
just been running the binary within the folder. But this browser is so good, I
want the system to recognize it as a full (installed) application.
Excellent work, you all.

I usually choose to select the “SSH server” and the “basic system”(last line)
