That is precisely what I don't want -
I couldn't use dead keys to produce letter with diacritical
accents, nor get the Command key to act as Meta. I've got a beige G3
with US ADB keyboard. Can anyone give any tips?

You are right, but yet one can barely function nowadays without
proprietary Flash and Java, and these aren't yet quite there for the
PowerPC yet. At least Java has some promise, but as far as Flash goes
we look to be up the creek, with no SVG in view to help.

send them, but to sum it up I tried everything under the Sun, and none
could mark a partition as LVM type, not even parted which does uses
names instead of hexadecimals.
I tried even to mark a partition as undefined wi
i, but my ATi iBook does
have some unsupported features.

mac-fdisk won't allow me to create a 0x8e partition, thus precluding
LVM usage... any solutions in view? Would pmac-fdisk or parted do the
job?

This is a FireWire iBook SE running a mix of stable and unstable, with
the standard kernel-image-2.4.21-powerpc from unstable.
Running pppconfig, it was unable to find the modem device.
Funny thing is that dmesg says it should be OK, even after some strange
error messages:
