libapache-mod-perl seems to forget to add the following important line to
/etc/apache/httpd.conf:
LoadModule perl_module /usr/lib/apache/1.3/mod_perl.so
To double check, I just now did "apt-get remove libapache-mod-perl" and
"apt-get install libapache-mod-perl". This did not add it or pr
Great. But if gcc, cpp, and binutils were already in the base install,
why not also libc6-dev?
I'm still learning my way around apt-get and debian, so these are all good
tips.

Thanks, Jeroen,
It turns out that I was missing libc6-devel.
I checked config.log and then searched packages.debian.org for the missing
file.

Should the command apropos work 'out of the box'?
I've recently done a fresh install of woody and get no hits when searching
with apropos, even though the relevant man pages exist:

Thanks. Replacing 'stable' with 'testing' in sources.list allows me to
install Apache.

Yes, apt-get is trying to install potato. The man page for sources.list
implies that I could just swap stable with woody. However, I've tried
that without success. Should I point to different ftp mirrors?
How did you get yours to work?

Hi,
I used apt-get to install Apache and Apache::DBI, but get errors when I
try to use it. For example, perl -e 'use Apache::DBI;' gives:

you forgot to load "Apache"?) at /usr/share/perl5/Apache/DBI.pm

This is a good trick but does not always work. It's a good argument for
having full mirrors. I realize we can't impose too heavy requirements,
but it would be very useful to be able to identify sites which are
incomplete and sites which carry the full mirror of that particular
release.

Sure, a link from the install notes to the CD FAQ would be good. A short
paragraph with the highlights plus a link would be even better. Keep in
mind that (at least 3 years ago) your average web page has 20 links. So

Ok. Here are some more concrete suggestions regarding the installation

non-booting USB floppies.

Floppyless installs should have more focus in the install guide. Many
(most?) new macintoshes do not have a floppy drive. At my site we have
about 50 macintoshes (G3/G4) but I've only seen two where a 3.5" drive has
been added. A few have zip disks.

I ran nessus (installed from RPM) from a RedHat 7.2 (i686) workstation.
The target was woody on a macintosh G4.

Hi,
I've upgraded my test of woody (ppc) to the 2.4 kernel on to be able to
use iptables and getting more acquainted with Debian. After the upgrade I
ran nessus against the new set up and found the only two questionable

First was the use of non-random IP IDS:

Hi,
What kind of info about the install process would be most useful for me
to take notes on?
Here are my comments and a question so far.
