Hi,
I just installed Debian Etch from a recent netinst image. The system
works fine, with just one exception: I can't see my firewire HDD. The

Hi Brian,
no offense ment, but I think a good idea is to read the installation
manual. I've done Debian installations on several machines, Oldworlds,
mostly, and from what I read so far I think that installing Debian on
a Newworld machine such as yours should be pretty straight forward.

Hi Robin,
I'm using standard PC cards (USB, Firewire, Network Interface) with my
Umax Pulsar without any problem - and this includes OS X. As a
guideline, you should make sure that the card (or chipset) is
supported by Linux in general, and that the code required is part of
the mainstream kernel.
Hi Turbo,
I don't own a PegasOS, but I have some experiences with OF-based
machines. I wonder if you ever tried to reset the OpenFirmware using
the "set-defaults" command. This will reset everything, including some
variables that can result in some nasty effects. real-base and

Hi,
what information do you need specifically? From the users point of
view there is no difference between NFS v3 and NFS v4. And I'm not
aware of any error/problem on PPC. When you're in a restrictive
environment, v4 is definetely for you because it just uses one port,
namely 2049 for the nfsd.
Hi Sandy,
I remember that I had problems specifying the correct values for a
boot net, too. That's why I "hardcoded" all values in NVRAM. On
startup, when the keyboard is initialized, you either press F1 if your
box is equipped with a supported graphics adaptor, or 1, when you're
using a serial co
Hi there,
AFAIK the Kernel version 2.6 doesn't support this box. There are
numerous patches that might work with versions up to 2.6.7, but I was

I'm trying to compile Enlightenment from CVS-sources for some time

Hello Sven,
thank you for your answer.
I thought that quik should be able to work with a dedicated

partitioned my hard disk and installed the base system, quik
complained about different partitions for / and /boot, and after the

Hi,
I recently decided to get rid of my OS X installation on my Umax

that I couldn't configure RAID, but I'm planning to do this later on.

Hi,
depends on the kernel you're running. If you're using a stock debian

Hi,
your machine is definetly a CHRP one, so there is no use in following
the PREP method. I'm not sure but if I remember correctly, the F50

Hi,
there are AFAIK some problems with the new Debian installer,
especially on older PPC-Hardware, such as PReP-Machines. I remember
that I had an issue with the Boot partition, too.

Hi,
is this really an "Escala MT604"? I'm just wondering because I found
information on an Estrella MT604, but there doesn't seem to be a

If it is an Estrella, it should be a PREP-machine. You might try to
boot a Debian PREP-kernel on it. It's worth a try, but it's
Hi,
for RS/6000 PREP systems you should take a look at http://www.solinno.co.uk/
I know, it says "Linux on the RS/6000 7043-140", but as the news-item

I'm trying to network-install Sarge on a RS/6000 7025-F50. Using the

the file is transfered, it displays the amount of Packets transfered.
Hi,
I successfully installed Linux on a Motrola Powerstack (604e CPU, PReP

disable the Linux/PPC bootloader. IMO the options specified for the kernel

Hi,
I'm using Debian/PPC "Woody" on an Oldworld Umax Pulsar.
Recently I upgraded the packages on my system. Since then, I have problems with
