I have been trying today to compile a vanilla 2.6.16 kernel direct from
kernel.org and every time I get the same errors at the very end.
if [ -r System.map -a -x /sbin/depmod ]; then /sbin/depmod -ae -F
System.map -b /usr/src/linux/ debian/tmp-image -r 2.6.16.ppc.pb1; fi

You're absolutely right! In fact, only compiling i386 binaries, I had
no idea.
:)
But, I cannot get any kernel to boot that is not stock.
I tried the latest kernel, but after failed attempts, downloaded the
debia

Is it supposed to work

1) Does my PowerBook support cpu scaling? How do I enable it? Can I
even make it run at 500Mhz or so?
I think it runs at either half-speed or full speed. You need to
enable cpufreq scaling in the kernel.
Do I have to recompile kernel?
How do I enable cpufreq scaling in the kernel?
No, one is

Hi folks!
Just saw 2.6.16 was out and decide to give it a try.
I copied mi .config from 2.6.15.6, did a 'make oldconfig' and after
answering some questions I issued a 'make-kpkg kernel-image'.
Compilation went smooth and I obtained
linux-image-2.6.15.6_pbook.1_powerpc.deb. My gcc version is 4.0.3

Hi folks,
As you might know, GRUB version 2 will support powerpc in addition to
ix86 systems. The next release of the grub2 package in Debian should
have initial support for powerpc.
In the meantime, the latest release is available here:

There's also powernowd, which I have used for over a year without a single
hiccup. At least one
