to people having problem building kernels 2.6.16-rc3 or -rc4.
the problem with the keyoboard not being loaded was due to
the options about ADB missing in the "default" configuration
of the kernel. So someone needs to enable:

I have a PowerBook5,4, running the latest unstable debian kernel
(linux-image-2.6.15-1-powerpc). I have a Logitech usb microphone, and
if I boot with it unplugged, everything is fine and alsa works
correctly.
However, if it is plugged in when I boot Linux, the system does not
load the module

This is very annoying. I suppose Apple assume that anyone choosing not
to use the internal mic will do so for quality reasons and buy external
soundcards.
I found a simple mic preamp circuit here:

It should but remember the line-in isn't amplified so you need an ampli
before the input.

As far as I know both the iSight's microphone and the internal PowerBook
mic near the left speaker are unsupported.
