I have actually solved this problem by downloading a kernel-image
(2.4.22-ben2) ready to use for my iMac DV+
Problem is that I am still working on missing modem/ethernet connection
as well as sound capabilities.
BTW some time a
I suspect it could be kernel config or XF86Config. I have the latest
xfree86 from Debian unstable and it reports itself as 4.2.99. It
recognises the Geforce4 440 Go OK so I assume this xserver is OK. I
will stick with it and try some new kernel configs and XF86Configs
first, before trying so
